Kindred spirits

One of my favorite mementos of working at the San Francisco office of Pentagram Design was this guidebook sourced from employees' travels. Their staff travelled the world professionally and personally, and they tapped into that vast resource of experiences by internally publishing this FEEDBACK travel guide.

Introduction

FEEDBACK is put together and published by Pentagram for and with the help of their friends.

Artists, designers, writers, architects and photographers have a unique advantage in that they belong to an international fraternity. And when travelling to unfamiliar cities, and at a loss as to where to go, are often taken by a friend or colleague to an interesting corner of the city.

We asked contributors to restrict their recommendations to major cities, but have also included a few exotic locations as these might prove worth a detour between airports. Although every effort has been made to check the descriptions, names and addresses, changes inevitably occur. We welcome any corrections or comments for future editions.

Alan Fletcher, Pentagram 1992.

Although this book is now dated, I would take this type of curated advice from industry peers over a GPT or Gemini auto-generated recommendation any day of the week. As LLMs start to become personalized, we should be able to load them with content and sources that best reflect our unique interests and passions.
